Watching news nowadays and all the conflicts and catastrophes in the world whether intentionally or not lead a person to the thoughts about last days of human beings. The enigmatic date December 2012 was proven right. But wait! It happened March 11, 2011. It might happen that even in this date people will find mysterious coincidence. However, media in this situation was trying to help Japanese people and reported only the facts. From this perspective only people create the fear of the worlds end, but the fear is based on the previous information and prediction about this issue.
‘‘The world held its collective breath as this heavy-populated nation experienced the fourth largest earthquake in recorded history. This seismic event, along with the subsequent tsunami, rattled nerves around the globe as scientists scurried to prevent a nuclear holocaust. Since numerous nuclear reactor power plants were compromised, the end result may remain uncertain for many years to come.’’
Tisha, when the tragic events in Japan happened, the news as always did their job. However, I believe in this case it was too far to go. Connecting every catastrophe and disaster, whatever it is human caused or natural with the end of the world, is just not clever human way to explain things, to rise panic. I would agree with you, that no matter what happens, people jump into conclusions and try to see some mystical sings of the world's end in it. It was the same way after the ending of the WWII and the beginning of Cold War, people build shelter and were waiting for the nuclear war, waiting for the end of the world the way we know it. And this is just one of numerous examples how any tragic events are turned into the sign of the world's end. So, in this case Media is just doing what it does the best, scares people, by coming up with wrong but very catchy conclusions.
